2009 - Progetto Magellano

Il progetto Magellano è una proposta dell’Istituto Regionale di Ricerca della Lombardia su incarico della Presidenza della Regione. Una "call for ideas" dedicata a tutti i ricercatori italiani che svolgono stabilmente la propria attività all’estero.

Magellan Project

This project is a proposal from the President of the Lombardy Region via the Lombardy Regional Institute for Research. It's a call for ideas from all ex-patriot Italian researchers working abroad, to propose thoughts, pointers and suggestions on various themes of interest to regional policies.

This is not mere rhetoric about the "brain drain" phenomenon, the Presidency wishes to be in contact with researchers abroad in the same way as with other researchers already collaborating with IReR.

IReR created a database which is the most updated in terms of the sector, qualifications, employing institution, and location of ex-patriot Italian researchers. Relevant personnel from the Embassies of Canada, France, United Kingdom, Spain, USA and Sweden took part, as well as the Association of Italian Researchers, Prometeonetwork (Italian Life Sciences Online), the Network of Italian Scholars Abroad, and individual researchers themselves.
